How do I get a Certificate of Conformity for my BMW Motorrad?

Certificates of Conformity (CoC), required for vehicle import/export, are supplied by vehicle manufacturers. BMW Motorrad UK may be able to supply a CoC free of charge, for eligible vehicles first registered in the UK.

A CoC for vehicles originally manufactured to be sold in the EU but not first registered in the UK, may be available by BMW UK at a cost of £120 - please email eccoc@bmw.co.uk.

Your email must include:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • 17-digit VIN
  • Vehicle make and model
  • First two pages of the V5 (vehicle registration) document
  • Brief explanation as to why a Certificate of Conformity is required

Please beware of fraudulent websites claiming to offer this service for a charge. Authorities will not accept a certificate issued by third parties. The certificate must be issued only by the manufacturer.

Please allow 2 weeks for the CoC to be produced. Printed copies with supporting documentation can be supplied; delivery may take up to 4 weeks.

Note: BMW Motorrad vehicles built from 1st Jan 2004 did not have a CoC and some early CoC documents were not required to include vehicle emission data.

If your vehicle was originally manufactured for a non-European market, there will not be a CoC available.

A vehicle manufactured in a European factory does not imply that the vehicle will come with a CoC as this document is only a legal requirement for vehicles sold in Europe.

If you need technical information about a vehicle not originally first registered in the UK, please contact the original selling or exporting country for assistance.

The Homologation Department are unable to advise on the registration process for any country including the UK. You will need to contact the relevant authority in the country you are importing and/or exporting too.

The Homologation Department are unable to advise on any aspect of a conversion or if vehicles meet country specific requirements, the importing market authorities would determine this.

It may not be possible, in every case, to fully convert the vehicle to UK specification. Not all BMW Group Retailers will be prepared to carry out or advise on any conversion nor is there a genuine authorised conversion kit available.
