How does the Battery Guard on the R 1300 GS work?

The Battery Guard checks the state of charge or the voltage of the battery once a day. If the value is too low, a warning message appears when the ignition is switched on.

When the state of charge is low, the 12 V socket is activated, allowing the vehicle battery to be recharged with a connected charger.

If your R 1300 GS is connected to BMW Motorrad Teleservice, the Battery Guard distinguishes between two states of charge:

  • Low state of charge: The Battery Guard transmits a warning message every three days via BMW Motorrad Teleservice with a request to charge the battery
  • Critical state of charge: If the state of charge is critical, the Battery Guard sends a daily warning message

Note: Depending on the availability of BMW Motorrad Teleservices, warning messages can also be transmitted by electronic notification. For more information on BMW Motorrad Teleservices, please contact your authorised BMW Motorrad Retailer.
